Idiot Pilot @ Viking Union
Last night Idiot Pilot played for the What’s Up! Pre-Award Show along with Sugar, Sugar Sugar, Rooftops, and Yogoman Burning Band. They were all amazing but this Idiot Pilot show was incredible. They played last, starting at midnight and going until about 1 a.m. They played a lot of their newer stuff but they did not disappoint with the songs they chose from their older album. In general it felt like a lot of people left before they played but that’s alright with me. It was nice to see them again. Hopefully they’ll play a lot more after they release their new album.
Sorry about the bad picture quality. I didn’t want to bring my camera because I thought it could get messed up. This is from my iPhone.
Defriending Cancer Benefit Show in Seattle
If you’re in Seattle on February 11th, you should definitely check this out. It’s basically a fundraiser for cancer but also get to see some comedians and musicians too. This sounds awesome the more I think about it. James Mercer from the Shins AND Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse? So amazing. You can get tickets here. (It’s sorta pricy but remember that it is a fundraiser.)

English In Mourning
R.I.P. J.D. Salinger.
I have only had limited exposure to Salinger’s work but I have loved what I’ve read so far. Hopefully I’ll be able to read more in the near future because I think he had a great voice and a knack for transcendental characters. It would be impossible to ignore “Catcher In The Rye”, one of the best and also overrated books I’ve read. Holden was someone I was annoyed by but also someone to admire at times. I imagine that part of his personality was derived from Salinger himself.

R.I.P. Howard Zinn.
Zinn is another mysterious figure in my own reading history but he is still worth talking about. I’ve briefly covered part of his work “A People’s History of The United States” which is increasingly interesting as I get older. His last piece was about how President Obama is going to be recorded as a “mediocre” president and that people must realize this. I find it impressive and encouraging that he didn’t buy into an image that many Americans did/continue to create. Those who knew his work spoke fondly of him and I think him for his insight.

Craig Owens New Lead Singer For Aerosmith?
Maybe. I don’t know. I just looked up his Twitter account and I found a bunch of people who are talking about Craig Owens taking Stephen Tyler’s place. How weird would that be? It’s like that episode of Boy Meets World where Eric wants to bring a date to the Aerosmith concert but his parents are also going; with better seats no less! They get mad at one another for trying to claim the band as belonging to their own generation and, in the end, realize their music is timeless! Oh my God, if you haven’t seen it, you’re really missing out. Anyway, I thought I would post my thoughts on the matter because I posted about Craig Owens leaving Chiodos a while ago. So far my predictions are right. He finished up a solo tour, worked with Pete Wentz, is awaiting his Isles & Glaciers EP which will probably be in the Top 10 albums on iTunes for the week, and Chiodos has not really been heard from since.

Just in case you missed out…

BONUS!!!!!!!!$$$$$$$$
When I get old I think I’m going to become a sneaker poacher. Like, instead of going on safari to hunt animals in Africa, I’ll just travel the countryside in search of this whole set in size 11.5. That should keep me busy.

OMG SLEIGH BELLZZZ!!!#%%#*@((#)$(*$&^$&*#%*&@
So I guess Sleigh Bells is going on tour with Yeasayer. HOLY SHIT. I need to see this…
Circa Survive Vinyl
Normally, I don’t get too worked up over some records but these two hold special meanings to me. I don’t think I’ll be getting them because I’m saving up for Sasquatch 2010 but I think that one day I might run into them again. Either that, or I’ll just see Circa Survive when they come to Washington on tour. I miss them… Anyway, check this stuff out. Who doesn’t like colored vinyl?

Juturna

On Letting Go
I would probably want Juturna. That album is amazing.
Tender Forever @ Evergreen State College Womyn’s Festival
Yes, that’s a Wii-mote. Tender Forever uses it on one of her songs for percussion. If you have the chance to see her live, you should really invest the $5 it probably costs. It’s like watching electro-pop fused with Pepe LePew and a dash of stand-up mixed in. She’s currently working on a new album and I can’t wait. Hopefully she plays more shows in the near future.
Sorry for the poor picture quality. I have the pictures on a weird setting and I was using some zoom. I’ll try to work on that in the future. (Like for the Idiot Pilot show this weekend!)
My book
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I’m currently putting my book together. It will be called “Donald’s Hair” and, so far, it’s about 17 different writing pieces that I’ve worked on. They were written between 2007 and now and I think it’s time to release them together. I will let you know more about pricing and such when I reach that point but for now I just wanted to see how many people were interested in getting a copy. There may be a few other things in store if you stay updated, too. Just let me know, send me an e-mail (address is on the For Sale page). This is pretty exciting for me and it would be awesome if you were interested.
As far as my photo-book, I have not reached that point yet. I haven’t achieved enough of my personal goals for that aspect of my creativity but hopefully, in the future, I will be able to present that as well.
Thanks for the support!

Overheard.
“People don’t really like getting complimented.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, me and my friend did a social experiment on it once.”
“That’s cool.”
“Well, I mean, we were drinking and we thought, ‘Hey, why not do something? Let’s so a social experiment!’”
“That’s so funny!”
“Yeah and we noticed that a lot of people don’t like getting complimented.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, like my friend saw a girl with tattoos on her chest and he was like ‘Nice tats’ but she was all like, no. It was so funny!”
“Yeah.”
“‘Nice tats.’”
laughter
“What’s wrong with people these days? I think we figured it out.”
NO. No you didn’t. You want to know how I know? It’s because some drunk douche-bag and his bromance were drunkenly talking to people and telling them you like something they’re wearing. I would probably not respond positively to two drunken assholes telling me my “Yeah Yeah Yeah’s shirt is hella cool”. Shut the fuck up, the whole Underground can’t concentrate and she’s not going to sleep with you.
